Ashok Gandotra, Asian-Latino, is one of the best Criquet players out of Latin America. Born in Rio Janeiro on November 24, 1948, but rooted in India, he is the only athlete from Brazil to conquer the ICC.
The son of an Indian diplomat who was assigned to Brazil, Ashok’s life changed radically when his family had to return to New Delhi and that’s where he met the British-founded sport.
In 1969 he achieved his greatest successes in Test cricket competitions. During his career he participated in local duels in Delhi and Bengal. People who saw him since high school considered him a rare talent. Gandotra didn’t think he would ever play cricket professionally.
However, the passage of time and discipline that he developed and imposed on himself, were instrumental in taking him to the highest echelons of the sport. He currently lives in Kolkata where he is a successful businessman.
