Jaime Lozano’s tricolor’ team could not end the USA hegemony at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, being the second time that Mexico fell in the final against the US National team.
Undoubtedly, this result further raises the alarms for the Mexican technical director, Jaime Lozano, who was widely reported as needing a victory to keep his coaching job given his team’s performances.
The United States is a three-time champion with the “two-nil“
The first 45 minutes were played at the pace that the United States wanted, as they were the ones moving the ball forward, executing the better plays and, of course, scoring the only goal, which was a masterpiece by Tyler Adams from three-quarters down the field with a powerful kick toward the goal; though goalkeeper Memo Ochoa, did not seem to interfere much.
In the first half, Mexico could not decipher the U.S. scheme, since it never controlled the position of the ball, and when playing from its area, it always sought to jump the lines with long kicks, which facilitated the American defensive work.
In this way, the only thing they could get was a shot on the edge of the six-yard box, thanks to a left-footed shot by Luis Chávez from Jesús Gallardo’s cross from the right flank.
The Aztecs tried to change for the second half, but due to the lack of mobility of their players up front, the United States again looked more dangerous and was closer to their second goal than Mexico was to tieing.
The U.S. saw their territorial dominance rewarded with Gio Reyna’s goal in the 63rd minute, after taking advantage of a rebound in the penalty area and with a strong shot sent the ball into the net.

Finally, the Mexican coach understood that, in the face of his poor attack, he had to make changes and sent Santiago Gimenez and Orbelin Pineda, which seemed to work for him, as the team had more presence near their rival’s net, as even a penalty was awarded in favor, but this was annulled by VAR decision after a dive by the Feyenoord striker.
In the end, Mexico got the ball, but this was more because of the changes made by U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter; the Mexican players however, continued to fall victim to their nervousness, as they were unable to generate effective plays.
In summary, the United States ended up giving the Aztec team a dance, because in most of the match they managed to impose their conditions, leaving the Mexican players without a clue and with wet powder, thus materializing a new failure for those led by Lozano.
