With a heavy rain that did not let up from start to finish, and with the absence their G.O.A.T – Messi, the team led by “Tata” Martino did not take long to show their shortcomings on the field.
Just in the third minute, the NY home team attained its first of four goals from Lewis Morgan to the disbelief of the Inter Miami stars.

After a frustrating first period including several fruitless attempts by Luis Suárez to tie the score, Tata Martino was hoping the half-break would allow him to channel his players to look for the equalizer and, perhaps a path to victory.
Reality began to set in however, because six minutes after the start of the second half, Lewis Morgan would do a repeat through the Inter-Miami defense.
With Miami trying to attack in search of a goal to lessen the gap, the Red Bulls’ 21 year-old Venezuelan mid-fielder Wilkeman Carmona, would further bury Inter Miami’s aspirations making it 3 – 0 in the 66th minute.
Lewis Morgan, the undisputed star of the NY Red Bulls vs Inter Miami
To round off a great performance, Scottish-born Lewis Morgan would close matters by scoring a hat-trick with his third goal of the match, which also raised him as the top scorer in MLS so far this season. The 27 year-old Morgan actually played for Inter-Miami during the 2020-21 season after playing for Celtic and St. Mirren in Scotland where he started his career in 2014.
This sound defeat leaves several doubts about Inter Miami, not only for their upcoming regular season matches in the MLS, but also for the Champions Cup tournament quarter-finals where they will have to face the Rayados de Monterrey, one of the best teams right now in Mexico. The first of those two games will be on April 3rd at Chase Stadium in Ft Lauderdale.
