Major League Soccer (MLS) announced last Wednesday an initiative to boost the growth of Hispanic leaders in the soccer industry, opening ten jobs for every soccer player, as part of celebrations for Hispanic Heritage Month.
Inter Miami, Los Angeles Galaxy and Los Angeles FC, among other MLS clubs, will open their doors to more than 100 young Hispanics to learn how an elite soccer team operates.
“In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and as part of its commitment to support youth, Major League Soccer (MLS), MLS WORKS, the League’s social responsibility platform, P&G and Hispanic Star are teaming up for the second edition of “Capitanes del Futuro”, a unique program that leverages the passion for soccer to prepare the next generation of Hispanic leaders,” MLS said in a statement.
“Capitanes del Futuro”: MLS’ bet on the future
This program will help young people between the ages of thirteen and eighteen to strengthen the link with their origins and at the same time have access to tools and resources to make their way in the sports industry.
“The soccer industry offers at least 10 off-field jobs for every player on the field,” said Lela Coffey, P&G’s multicultural vice president in North America, in remarks provided by MLS.
“Often young people are not aware of these career opportunities. “Capitanes del Futuro” is a unique program built around the U.S. soccer ecosystem to generate awareness of opportunities for young Latinos,” she added.
Austin, Chicago Fire, Cincinnati, Dallas FC, Houston Dynamo, New York Red Bulls and New York City are other clubs that have joined the initiative.
