Honoring the Legends: Remembering the sports heroes we lost in 2024

We remember the athletes who left their mark in the history of sport and will live in the memory of fans, fanatics and followers of different disciplines.

At Unanimo Sports, as we look back at 2024 – the victories that elated, the losses and near misses that kept us at the edge of our seats, the many moments that had us jumping and cheering, let’s also remember those in the world of sport who left us, and who directly or indirectly are responsible for the success of many of today’s superstars, and continue to be their inspiration, while staying forever our heroes.

Among them are at least seven Hall of Famers in their respective sports, including the literal icon of the NBA logo, and the current world-record time holder in the Marathon. Major League Baseball was hit particularly hard losing eight former players including four enshrined in Cooperstown, plus at least two more who in the opinion of many, deserve to be there as well.

As we were closing the production of this tribute, the great Rickey Henderson joined the list as well, only 5 days shy of his 66th birthday. We were hoping for no more names as we closed in on the final days of the year, but after our initial post of the completed video, renown sports broadcaster Greg Gumble passed away on December 27th, joined that same day by Puerto Rican boxing champion Paul Bamba, who only days before, won the “gold” cruiserweight title by way of knock out.

We regret leaving anyone out of this list, as our heart goes out to all the athletes and sports personalities who have given their all to athletic competition that we as fans have enjoyed.
