But for Jimmy Lozano, that’s not a concern. The coach of the Aztec team, together with captain Edson Alvarez, a key player on the English West Ham club team, spoke at a press conference ahead of their debut in the 48th edition of the competition.
Jaime Lozano begins his biggest challenge in the same place as his debut with the Mexican national team
“I don’t get tired of being told that, if I continue or not continue in the national team, that they will remove me if I don’t win. I try to help my players achieve thier goals. I must take care of what I am depended upon, when there are good results we will tip the balance in our favor,” said the 45-year-old coach.
Lozano returns to NRG Stadium, where he made his debut almost a year ago with the Mexican national team thrashing Honduras 4-0 and what would be the beginning of his path to the championship in the 2023 Gold Cup. This time with a new objective.

“There is no better place to be as a Mexican coach than here. I’ll try to enjoy it. These are moments that we sometimes do not give value to. I always tell my players that we are passing through on the national team, the vast majority of us are here for a short time.”
In addition to asking for the support of the fans, he reiterated the importance of playing the Copa America and that he prefers to compete with Brazil or Uruguay, even if they lose, just to see where they stand.
“Yes, of course, a Copa America is not the World Cup, because of the kind of teams we play against, because we are not always invited and because it is one of the most beautiful tournaments,” he said.
“We have to leave our lives on the field, then the results can be one or the other, but we are going to measure ourselves against great rivals. We are not here to participate, the intention will always be to win,” he concluded.
